Doug made a bet. He bet short term approval of him going heavy with restrictions would win him re-election. He probably will get these boomers to turn out for him again, but the lefties that love him right now will still vote against him next election. So what has he accomplished? He split off a chunk of his voting base by betraying them. Will it cost him the election? Well enthusiasm is important in elections. Every PC voter I've talked to hates Ford now, but won't be voting LPC or NDP, so either they reluctantly show up for PC, or stay home.
