Understand that we're in a de-facto election campaign right now, since this gov't is currently hanging on by a thread. Best guess is we'll be going back to the polls within a year.
Ok, so with that in mind, the Liberals announcing increased immigration levels was an election campaign move. It's bait.
The entire point of that announcement is to try and bait the CPC into objecting. Keeping immigration levels the same would make immigration a non-issue that the CPC doesn't have to comment on. But jacking it up makes it an election issue and forces the CPC to take a position. And the media, who are in cahoots with the Liberals, they've got stacks of articles pre-written, ready to call the CPC "racist" for wanting to "lower" immigration (i.e. by cancelling Trudeau's planned increase), stacks of immigrant fluff pieces, "Why are the CPC pandering to white nationalists" smears etc etc. They (the media and LPC) have got a whole campaign designed around calling the CPC racist for wanting to reduce immigration. That's what they're going to campaign on in the next election.
That's why the CBC asked O'Toole about the immigration increase just then, completely out of the blue. They're trying to get him to react.
From the CPC's point of view, they were presented with two options when Trudeau made that move:
Take the bait and oppose the increase. In doing so, exposing themselves to this "O'Toole's a racist for wanting to reduce immigration" campaign that everyone knows CBC, Global, CTV and the rest of them already have cooked up and ready to launch.
Not take the bait, and instead just say "Yeah sure whatever, fill your boots Justin." and then lose some of the low IQ/low information voters who will run to the PPC because they don't understand the strategy and don't understand this move was specifically designed by the Liberals to make them run to the PPC, for the Liberal's benefit.
It's a pretty shrewd move on the LPC's part actually. It's a win-win for them, since the PPC have conveniently opened up and given a place for disaffected conservatives who can't understand the game that's being played to run to when the CPC doesn't take Trudeau's bait. And sadly, there are enough stupid, stupid people who will take the bait, maybe even enough to hand Trudeau the next election through vote splitting.
Worse, you don't see an obvious LPC/media trap when you see it?
Actually that's not a fair question. We know you guys have the political acumen of an ashtray. You guys, like your leader, have zero tact and zero ability to navigate politics which is why you have no representation in government.
And while most voters say they want immigration limited when asked, it's just not an important election issue to most Canadians, so it's not something the CPC going to campaign on. The electoral interest in immigration just isn't worth the media attacks that are in store for the CPC if they go after immigration. The safe strategy is to just go along with whatever Trudeau promises. No more, no less. Say as little as possible about the subject. Then if/when the CPC get elected, they can do whatever they want.
Unfortunately, this strategy is above the comprehension level of about 1-2% of right-wing/conservative voters who just want to hear their candidate publicly virtue-signal against immigration, regardless of what it does to their election chances. And Trudeau is counting on these people to shave enough points off of the CPC to save his skin.
You realize elections aren't internet debates, yes? Elections are about vote counts. You lose when the other side wins more seats than you. When you make campaign decisions that result in the other team getting more seats than you, THAT'S when you lose. And the Liberals are trying to bait the CPC into doing just that. And people like you would have them take the bait and surrender the next election to Trudeau because "at least I virtue signaled about muh principles!"
It's sad that you're being so easily played by a intellectually challenged part-time snowboard instructor. I'm sorry, but there's no excuse for being outsmarted by someone who's nickname is "Zoolander". Give your fucking head a shake.
Oh and BTW, when the CPC decide they want to finish with zero seats and less than 2% of the vote, that's when they'll look to PPCtards for election campaign advice. You guys giving campaign advice to real parties is frankly hilarious. Try and picture how that looks to someone who doesn't have their head up Bernier's ass ROFL.
*Sigh*

So you'd have it where the "Conservatives" never take a stance that is against the Liberal grain...
And then when they win you pray that they bring in what you want?
Sounds idiotic, how can you expect people to do what they refuse to adhere to, and say?
Just think of it this way - who do you think is going to bring in more immigrants? Liberals or conservatives?
Whoever that is, vote for the other guy.
Clearly they're both happy to adhere to more immigration.
Are you fucking illiterate?
Worse, you don't see an obvious LPC/media trap when you see it?

Stopped reading there.
Because you're afraid of the truth.
Yes, because that's what the polling indicates the electorate wants.
