Toronto and Peel's data from the past 4 weeks shows that lockdown doesn't work.
Because it's not a lockdown. Schools are still open and anyone from Toronto, Peel or York can just drive to Guelph, Oshawa or Barrie if they want to eat out in a restaurant. Businesses outside of the lockdown and red zone are even increasing their hours to deal with increased customer traffic because everybody from Toronto, Peel and York is coming.
Lockdowns work if they do them for a whole region. It worked in Poland (down from over 30k cases a day to less than 5k), it worked in Israel (from 9k a day down to around 200), it worked in Austria (down from almost 10k to 2k) and so on. But these countries had real lodckdowns (all schools closed, only essential businesses open) and not the patchwork lockdown like Ontario is currently experimenting with. Get in your car, drive for 20 min and you're in a yellow or green area.
