i first noticed the reality of the NHL (and pro sports) when I watched an interview with NHL commish Gary Bettman back in 2004.
He referred to the sport as 'the product'.
That's what it is, a product. Like Oreos or GMC Sierra pickup trucks.
Hockey was once a cultural activity in Canada and parts of the USA (one of the few that brought Anglos together with French speakers) but now I can see that in the last 50 years, the sport has modernized into a business first, sport second.
Liability has become a huge issue in the league, and the league's focus groups have revealed that people who aren't hockey fans (the demographic they want to touch) don't really like fights and/or hitting.
So to appeal to the remaining market share and reduce insurance costs, the NHL has been steadily clamping down on fighting and restricting heavy hits. (Remember Scott Stevens?)
The culture of the game is forever changed. Gone are the days of the tough as nails blue collar player - enter the entitled divas who snitch on their opponents whenever they hear a bad word, just like a 5 year old would.
Major junior leagues are taking steps to removing hitting as well, making hockey more or less ringette.
You know what's next - female player quotas (I believe female coaching quotas will happen first). I believe in equality of opportunity, but if you have to handcuff the entire sport simply to score points on the leftie progressive meter and cater to inferior athletes, you have (as Bettman might say) a substandard product.
Professional hockey as a sport is long gone. It became sick in the 90's and died in earnest after the 05 lockout.
Don't give these fuckheads your money, they destroyed the sport for profit.
Problem is people still want to give these guys their money. People still want their sportsball no matter how cucked it gets, because we love to see competition. Look at NBA, NFL, I know so many ppl turned off by the SJW stuff, but they still tuned in, they still bought products.

Many people I know dropped when Cherry was turfed, and more will drop when bodychecks become illegal, women are coaching and playing in the games etc.
I saw that retarded 'celebration' the Carolina team was doing, there is no shame, they will try anything to coax 'woke' people to their arena.
When the ladies started doing colour commentary I couldn't figure out why I was so annoyed - I was wondering if I was just a bigot.
Turns out that most men watch sports to get away from resting bitch face and shrill screeching most of us put up with in public and in the workplace.
