This is fucked. Poilievre was the only one with any clout or star power on the opposition. Now O'Toole wants to shut him down.
Some are speculating it's because O'Toole wants to present voters with a softer, gentler, more moderate CPC (LOL) and Poilievre's hawkishness is incompatible with that vision. That explanation makes sense when you look at how soft O'Toole and the CPC have been on Trudeau over his vaccine failure and the ruined economy. They're barely even criticizing him for it.
I think It's clear by now that O'Toole is a strategy retard. He has no idea what he's doing or how to win. Like for starters you win by outshining your opponent, not by being more dull and muted. Or with the whole Sloan thing. O'Toole thinks he's projecting moderateness, but what he's really projecting is weakness. And when presented with a strong horse and a weak horse, people will always choose the strong horse.
You outlined the best case scenario, that he's a moron strategically. I'll offer another alternative, the worst case scenario - he's consolidating power by eliminating those who threaten his leadership both presently and in the future. Sloan and Pierre both are a threat to O'Toole. Pierre is the heir apparent so a demotion helps O'toole. I imagine he'll be coming for Lewis next, because she also has a strong path to leadership. Lewis isn't an MP yet but I can see him figuring out a way to prevent her from running in the next election.
Bingo!
