The CBC cares about people wanting to work during the pandemic only when they are asylum seekers.
Their asylum seeker eager to work propaganda they regularly push takes precedent over the lock down they push.
Sure we all feel bad for people who can't find work due to the staggering unemployment caused by COVID. We agree COVID closures need to stop to get the economy going. We agree entirely that unemployment has surpassed the recession in the 80's and the one in the 90's. Yes CBC we agree with you that this stagnant economy is causing great hardship and preventing people from working and providing for their families and themselves. Asylum seekers have further issues reducing their chances of employment so until we open the economy back up they are going to be facing hardships.
One of the things people forget is that the last Prime Minister to reduce immigration and to set quotas to reduce immigration was ... Pierre Trudeau. No joke Trudeau reduced immigration as well as acceptance of refugees several times but went the full distance in 1983 because of high unemployment. In 1983 Unemployment had reach %12 having risen from the high 7's. We are currently at %9.4 up from the mid 5's having peaked at somewhere around %14 at the begining of COVID however!!! the calculation no longer includes those who have stopped receiving EI and are not looking for a job which in the current shutdown could put this number well above 20%. In truth we don't know the real rate.
So lets ask the question about immigration. I'm pro immigration and have 3 times immigrated to new countries from Canada. That said last year Canada attracted 285,000 immigrants... wait a second last year Canada was in lockdown for 8 of the 12 months how did it get 285,000 immigrants and what did we expect them to do??? Why would we let in 285,000 immigrants when we had 14% unemployment and were giving out money because the economy was shut down? Where did we expect them to go when they couldn't even get a doctors appointments let along rent an apartment.
so 1983 we received 89,000 immigrants, unemployment at 12% and a population of 25.37 million (0.35 % of the population)
2020 we received 285,000 immigrants during a pandemic with almost all businesses closed and unemployment spiking as high as 14% with a population of 38.44 million. (0.74 % of the population)
See CBC without actually trying to you proved damn well that our economy at this time cannot accept the level of immigration we are allowing and even by Trudeau Sr's policies this is the wrong way of doing it. This leaves asylum seekers with nothing and sitting behind millions who will need new jobs. Worse yet by not supporting small business you have removed the number 1 way in which new Canadians actually get their foot in the door.
$1300 of MY MONEY

This is how you win. Stop participating in the micro economy (ubereats, etc).
