Most mass social media sites are owned by literally a handful of IT technocratic "elites", so not sure why you're surprised.
Instagram, for example, is fully owned by Facebook, which is owned by Suckerberg. Youtube is owned by Google, Twitch is owned by Amazon, Linkedin is owned by Microsoft, etc.
As owners, they decide which executives & management they hire, who in turn hire their lower level staff who censor content & users that go against their owners' positions.
Google is also pretty much the internet advertising monopoly, so if they don't like the content of a site they don't own, they can hurt them bad by blocking ads and hiding them in search results.
