Your choice. Mid-size trucks are good if you live in a bigger city and don't have too much parking space or if you want to do some off-roading, but otherwise ... . They cost the same as full size pickups. Oh, and every mid-size truck besides the Ford Ranger is made in Mexico as far as I know.
I laugh at every full size pickup truck/suv grocery-getter I see rolling. They all forgot gas once hit $1.40/l.
Ford and GM/Chevy are the only ones that offer engines with less than 3L of displacement on full size pickups (as far as I know).

Tacoma’s are built in the states
The Ford Ranger has a 2.3L four cylinder. If you want something with more displacement and more cylinders, the Ford is out the window.
