It's gone insane over past few months. You can physically see smaller boxes for same price despite missing 100g or whatever. Meat on sale is like getting it normal price.
You can save a lot of money if you buy meat, starch and veg raw and make/freeze soups and stews.
Was paying $250 a week in groceries and I cut $100 off of that by doing some prep.
But even if you skimp on food, the other shit will get you - toiletries, cleaners, etc. I spent $60 on a bidet for our main floor toilet and it cut our toilet paper usage in half.
WTF are you doing? I live in Sask. Second highest electricity rates (after NWT) and -30 degree weather for two months straight and I don't even pay that much. I pay less than $300 a month (electricity + natural gas) for a 1800 sqft house.
I don't know man. Electricity + natural gas for heating + water will cost me about $350 a month. And I bet my electricity and natural gas rates are way above yours (unless you live in NWT).
Folks, electric, gas, and water is inexpensive. It’s the taxes, fees, and ‘charges’ that are often more expensive than the actual bill.
Utility companies still have to make money to pay staff and overheads and facing gradual less use of elec, nat gas and water, thru slower flowing water fixtures, low flow toilets (that don’t work), low flow showers (that you have to stand under 4x as long to get half as wet, low flow taps (takes twice as long to wash your hands or you age a year filling a pasta pot).
More “efficient” washing machines and dishwashers (just not efficient at cleaning), fridges (that hold less because of thicker doors/walls meaning you have to get a second freezer in the garage).
It’s only the CCFL and LED bulbs that have really hit the utility companies bottom line. They can’t increase the unit cost to compensate because of government tutting, so they just increase the fees instead.
I pay 16 cents for a kWh and about and gas is about $6 for a GJ (delivery + commodity). I don't think that it's more expensive in Alberta. Might be due that my house is new (first owner, triple glazed windows, spray foam insulation and all that stuff) and that we really try to save as much as possible (for example I don't heat my garage above 10 degrees in winter).
Costco before you go broke. That or buy the whole cow and pig.
I have two good rows of strawberries, raspberries growing wild out back and cranberry bushes divide properties. I usually freeze 5 ice cream containers of strawberries. I whistled looking at the price of strawberries, I must have $100 worth of berries in one container.
For just me, about $100/wk. I hunt and fish, usually buy a cow with the family and take a 1/4. I have a big vegetable garden as well. $50 in seeds will get you by for 3 years and you’ll save thousands, not to mention non gmo cancer sprayed veggies and fake ass organic bullshit.

2 adults, three kids (fourth on the way). About $200 a week.

yeah i have had taco nights where the protein was pinto beans...eating less meat because of the cost.

I mean there is something wrong. I pay with taxes over 16 cents for a kWh. I bet you pay less. Do you heat with electricity?

I don't know what you are all doing. Do you have a 3000 sqft mansion or something? Do you heat your garage with you door open?

About 1000 a month for 2 adults and 4 young kids

About $10 a week, sometimes $0 for one person.
Secret is I can expense a lot of my meals out...
Hahahaha
How do elk and moose taste? I’ve only had venison but really want to try those someday
