It's bizarro world when Mr. COVID Zero Dr. Isaac Bogoch and I agree on something. He scratches his head over closing playgrounds and outdoor recreation and I agree with him that sick pay for essential workers during a pandemic would make sense. Considering how much tax revenue Ontario lost from lockdowns and how much money they are spending on security theatre, paying sick essential workers to stay home for 2 weeks don't seem so bad. We already have tens of billions of dollars in provincial deficits from this pandemic. Along with the hundreds of billions in the federal deficits.
I would much rather we just not lock down at all and not have the taxpayer give sick pay to essential workers. But if the government is going to do lockdowns over a virus with a 99.5% survival rate, it's cheaper to incentivize sick workers to stay home than to throw more people into the unemployment rolls.
