He was at least brave enough to talk openly about globalism, he did take the USA away from the TPP and tried to bring manufacturing back to the USA.
Trump before he was elected: NAFTA is unfair. Just take a look at our trade deficit with Mexico.
Trump after he was elected: New USMCA trade deal. Trade deficit with Mexico doubles. Biggest increase under any president. Manufacturers still leaving the US (Ford moving production out of Ohio to Mexico as recent example).
America First. Am I right guys?
Maybe he should stop running around and calling the USMCA the best trade deal ever when it's arguable even worse than NAFTA. Talking openly about and against globalism doesn't achieve anything when you simultaneously sign globalist deals.
I will grant all of that...but there's no saviour. There isn't some god-emperor that will come down from the heavens to set everything right. Trump was important in waking up millions of Americans (and Canadians) to the problems with authoritarian government and you can't deny that. He was an inspiration to those people.
That said, people will have to work together to take power back locally. The systems that are in place will not allow this on a federal level, even in the USA. It is possible at the municipal and state level.
Of course, in Canada it is basically illegal to protest the government, so anyone who tries any kind of reform up here (non-violently) will still see the inside of a jail cell.
Even Conservative MPs who take conservative positions like Sloan and Hillier are tossed to the wolves. Bernier is treated the way Omar Khadr should have been treated.
