The way I see it, I have a few options: (And no proof is required right?)
For those of you in southern ontario, how do the people in stores react? Do they honor mask exemptions, or do they ignore it and force you to wear a mask? What do you do?
VERY few places honour mask exemptions. The subway system does. Just about every store doesn't. You've got asthma? Tough shit. Wear a mask or you don't come in. Oh, you want to file a human rights complaint against us because we're discriminating against your medical condition? Go right ahead. The onus will be on you to prove it.
And why would they do that? Because cops go around to stores, and the fine is thousands of dollars if they find people in there maskless.
Tried claiming an exemption at the mall: they let you into the mall, but the stores inside the mall don't let you in.
Tried claiming an exemption at a restaurant, back when restaurants were open: Too bad. Not allowed to walk the 20 feet to your table.
Tried claiming an exemption at a bank: they told me that it was my own problem that I was refusing to wear a mask. Literally did not understand the difference between "won't" and "can't." My matured investment is still tied up there and my bank won't let me access it without coming in while wearing a mask.
Actually, most cops say it isn’t their jurisdiction, and it isn’t. It is up to the By-law officers. So, when (not if), they give you crap, DEMAND that if they are going to call the Police that they call a By-law officer. Quote Section 2, Part 2 that refers to exemptions, and Section 2, Part 2 d) says that “NO PROOF HAS TO BE SHOWN”. When the By-law officer shows up, the store/or wherever is in abeyance, not you. Also, do not give any information to the Officer, as you have not done anything wrong.
So, just say “I have a medical exemption”. If they want to pursue, see above. If you don’t want to wait around for the By-law officer, then ask to see the Manager, if you haven’t already. If THEY give you problems, then NEVER shop there again, and tell EVERYONE! Trust me, they will regret turning anyone away, especially if/when the Injection consequences start and they will need all the customers they can get.
It is very unfortunate that we are regressing as a People, back to the days of “Show Me Your Papers”, or “You can only sit at the back of the bus”. Those hateful scenarios are being re-created by small minded and power hungry assholes. What can we expect when they stop teaching history in schools? Kids (and adults) never learn from the past, so the idiocy continues. Also, I wonder if a lot of the people who bitch were hypochondriacs before the COVID nonsense, or if it is a result of lack of oxygen? I do know that secretly, seeing people without masks, anywhere, usually gets one or two more questioning, if not downright removing their face diapers.
On a positive note, go to the Rallies that are every weekend in Toronto. Lots of GREAT people of all backgrounds. I and my husband find them energizing. We see smiles, FACES, FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, hand shakes, hugs. Whoo hoo. It certainly gives us a lot of hope. It is a downer, though when immersed in the sheeple afterwards, but we can keep it close to our hearts for a bit. ?
What a WEIRD time we are living in.
Good luck with expressing your Freedom. I am with you, believe me!
Everywhere I’ve been honours it. They are required by law. Canadian tire and Costco say that they don’t have to let you in if you don’t wear a mask, and they have the documentation to prove it (they don’t). Remind them that according to the human rights code of Ontario you cannot be refused service based on disability (not being able to wear a mask is a disability). I have had both Costco and Canadian tire managers go do my shopping for me while I wait outside. I get my stuff faster than I would be able to find it and I don’t have to wait in the checkout line. If everyone did this, they would give up and just let you in, but not enough people do. And make sure you are polite the whole time, these managers are just doing what they are told to do, is illegal but they don’t want to lose their jobs.
Edit: I’ve been contemplating just walking in anyway without them letting me, because by law they cannot touch you, and they have to call the police, the police will either not do anything or charge you with something that will not hold up in court if it ever sees the time of day, but I don’t do this because I don’t want to stress out my wife. If you’re single and brave, let me know how it goes.
It's about 50/50 where I'm at.
