Canada Day is already commemorated by the federal government as a day of shame, and a lot of Canadians don't even see themselves as Canadian (immigrants, children of immigrants, and depending on how ghettoized the second generation is, even third generation.) If they cancelled Canada Day, a lot of people wouldn't even notice.
Of course, taking away Canada Day would mean politicians would have no excuse to skip the Pride parades.
We were well on our way to cement a proper national identity until the mid sixties/into the 70's. We were romanticized as a nation of burly men, tough woodsmen and fighters. Everything started to fall apart, and with the influx of immigration since the 70's, that flicker of identity was snuffed out.
Isn't wild how the media is completely manufacturing "pop culture"?
They just say what they wish to be popular, and it becomes so, and they pretend the bulk of people going 'wtf' don't exist.
One thing Noam Chomsky was bang on about was the whole industry of Manufacturing Consent, it's terrifying to watch how easily people are played as to what 'public opinion' actually is.

"Calls to cancel". Very organic. Definitely not another astroturfed movement from the media lapdogs.

We should cancel Canada Day and bring back Dominion Day.
....and no not THAT Dominion...lol
What do you mean 'back' ? Last I checked we are still paying for the GG and the Lt. Governors.
The sentiment is more about heritage than political association.
The day garbage bins are full of LGBTQ logos and banners from banks and corporations.
Get fucked marxists!
