I recall 2 years ago when a r/Toronto mod dismissed the dramatic increase in shootings saying “In statistics it is called an outlier.” And then went on to label anyone concerned as racist and threaten bans unless you played by their rules when discussing the shootings.
r/Toronto comment from this shootings thread. Notice how careful they have to be. If this was myself commenting the mods would have banned me for “racist dog whistles”. Either way this Redditor makes some good points.
The sad truth is, you have a community made up of whatever people I dont care, but it's the community that for whatever reason lives in an absolutely separate, parallel universe where different rules apply, where different norms weigh in and where the rest of the society is just a backdrop, different morality and ethics, different logic, everything's different.
And instead going in and deconstructing it and disassembling the core of it, all the rest of the society does is finds a new way to extend its lease on life.
