Louisiana and Alabama will catch up to the death rates of NY and NJ. They aren't that far behind. These states are currently reporting up to 10 times the cases per capita than New York.
The new York times article is pay walled.... so useless, but doesn't show specific regional data, knly in aggregate so useless again. BtW no one here with half a brain would trust the failing NYT anyways....
As for statista, what is the source of their data? When I attempt to use their link, it wants a login...

New York's death rate is 274 per 100,000.
Louisiana's death rate is 239 and Alabama's is at 236.
They are close and Louisiana's is rising, catching up to NY.
