I think it's common practice for the muslim men to establish ground in the new country, set up house then invite their wives over. I've seen it many times in Canada, the man comes here, rents a place, makes it nice to invite his wife at a later date. Not sure why.

Maybe they're afraid their women will get westernized and need to establish a foothold first. They're very backward.
