Pikachu face. This is the fault of the media for whipping people up with false narratives like the existence of 'mass graves,' which they later amended to 'unmarked graves.'
The whole thing was a manufactured crisis. We still haven't been told why those kids were buried there, or how these numbers compared to similar facilities for white children like reform schools etc.
I am disgusted by this 'reconciliation' program which does nothing but create racism and divide our country. Yes, Residential Schools oppose our current values, but they were made with good intentions and run by (mostly) devoted workers doing what they thought best. There is no evidence that the death rate in the schools was greater than the same demographic who did not attend at that time. We should acknowledge this history, both good and bad, then move on, rather than dwell on the often-fictional negatives. The USA had a few times more RS than Canada did but are not plagued by this leftist angst. Who benefits from this narrative of hate? Certainly not aboriginals.
Never let a good crisis go to waste. The radical left are always whipping people up into a frenzy to achieve their aims. Notice how a lot of this church vandalism was perpetrated by non-natives. The media has remained silent. But don't you dare look at a mosque the wrong way.

This is absolutely not true. You can take a look at the report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission they go over the fact. Even if you look at the official death records the death rate was far above the average compared to other kids. In 1941 to 1945 the chance that a kid would die at a residential school was higher than the chance that a Canadian soldier would die in WW2. The death rate went down but even in the 60s (and we have a decent amount of documents from that area) the death rate of children at residential schools was twice as high as in the general population. You can all read it in the TRC report.
The USA had many more RS but are not plagued by this leftist angst.
They will be one day. The boomers will die soon and we will be left with the woke Millenials taking over.
Who benefits from this narrative of hate?
The conservative spectrum could benefit from this far more if they would be a little bit more intelligent. Residential schools clearly show what happens when an overreaching government takes away inalienable rights, like the authority over your children for the "greater good". I don't know why some Conservatives on the Internet are defending these schools so much. We're on a trajectory where this could happen again, but then the government will take your kids away to teach them leftists values for the "greater good".
Yes it is. Almost all of these deaths were from plagues, which hit aboriginal children much harder than anyone else. They died at the same rate whether they attended a RS, a day school, or avoided school altogether. Tragic, but not the fault of RS.
I don't really want to defend RS. As you say, RS were yet another example of how government interference causes disasters. I just don't like the dishonesty and hate. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission was so dishonest. With similar dishonesty, the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women puts the blame on whites. These women are murdered by aboriginals or are kids fleeing aboriginal violence. Bands have done little to prevent this. Any honest report would state these facts.
BC wildfire team said immediately that it was not caused by the train.
If I recall, it was called while the fire was still burning, based on satelite imagery: human caused, 3 or more ignition points around town.
The media took hold of "eye-witness" reports that it started when the train came through town and ran with it.

Unmarked graves that the locals always knew were there.

Manufactured crises is the perfect term. This is now a full time business.

And you certainly have a source for that other than your ass, am I right?
They blame the various governments for failure, but if you want to play victim just say that they blamed you specifically.
Great comment.
Sounds terrible. Glad he got out.
I was kinda hoping it was caused by a train carrrying oil becasue they refuse to let a pipelint through.
Doubt that it came from the church.

The fire came in from the wrong side of the city for that.
Yeah, it still looks like it came from the train track side of the town.
Could be from the highway too. Someone throwing away a cigarette while passing the town.
Could be.
