This was a worthy experiment, and necessary given the crackdowns on free speech on reddit during 2020.
That said, it needs to be acknowledged that this forum is a failure. Activity is practically dead. What activity exists is a banal echo chamber.
We need to return to reddit and re-open MetaCanada to provide a place for conservative and free-thinking Canadians on reddit to call home. We are somewhat unique on the internet in that there really isn’t a viable place for us to gather otherwise.
It’s not a US election year, so the Eye of Sauron won’t be looking, and if communities like Kia/kia2 and r/conservative can remain without being yeeted, we should be fine.
We simply weren’t on the same level as theDonald and weren’t in the same immediate danger of having the subreddit nuked.
I miss the old MetaCanada and this simply isn’t a viable replacement. I hope that others feel the same way and that we can restore the old, virile MetaCanada community.
Cheers.
PorkHoagie ruined it. Everyone went to Free Canada Dot Win.
Well.
Bai.
Turns out when free speech is heavily censored, people leave. Thought that was figured out when migrating from Reddit, but OmegaCanada is as heavily censored as Reddit, albeit with a slightly different flavor.
Bad ideas don't need to be deleted or banned, they need to be fought with good ideas. If you can't think of any good arguements against an idea you don't like, then you are either ignorant (hold a position without knowing why it is right), or you are wrong.
I hate reddit censorship but I also don’t like change and struggle with the new platform and that makes me participate less. So kinda agree
Dr. William Luther Pierce talked much about people posting nasty things on the internet as "activism" or whatever. None of what he said was good.
"return to reddit" is used in a more derogatory way most of the time. This place turned into a mismanaged disaster and did more to cater to the left's "wrong think" than anything else in the win domain. I tried to stick around here but I couldn't. Perhaps there is common ground to be had somewhere. It wont be reddit I'm afraid.
Ya, good call.
Nothing has changed on reddit though. The sub will still get shut down if/when we open it up and people start posting rule-breaking content, which is guaranteed to happen. There's no reason to believe that reddit will suddenly now tolerate that. We were enforcing reddit's rules to the letter and were still getting admin interventions over things as small as use of the word "fag". There is no way we can survive in that envionment. That's why we moved here.
The old metacanada died the instant Bernier became a traitor, taking a segment of our userbase with him, and starting a civil war that will never end as long as the PPC exists. Before that Metacanada was a fun shitposting community where everyone got a along and worked together to shit on the Liberals. Then when the PPC started, those people immediately turned the forum into a warzone.
That war then carried over to omegacanada. In an effort to turn this place into a PPC only echo chamber, they engaged in endless vitriol and harassment towards anyone who wouldn't bend the knee to their little joke party, as well as flooding the place with the rest of their PPC bullshit scaring away all the sane people.
So a decision had to be made. This place would never be fun as long as there were two warring factions in it. Metacanada was only fun because everyone was on the same side. So one of those parties had to go. And party that gets to stay wasn't going to be the one that cannot and will never win a seat (let alone an election), and which fills this place with this shit.
So here's what happens if we open up metacanada again:
The PPCers flood in (because they're not all banned from there like they are here), scare away all the sane people with abuse and harassment, and fill metacanada with the kind of crap they filled this place with before I banned them. The admins see this and shut us down, and then we end up back here anyway, only now we've lost metacanada altogether.
So there's zero point in opening metacanada again. The PPCtards would just torpedo it overnight if we did that.
There's a lot of PPC activity on r/canada, weirdly.
It's all downvoted, generally near the bottom of any given thread - but it's there.
The PPC crowd are also the bulk of the the "extremely online" right-wing crowd. The 4chan groyper types mainly.
Most mainstream conservatives don't use reddit.
Yes, the PPCtards are still waging their stupid little war with endless sock puppet alts that get automodded for being sock puppet alts.
The metacanada userbase was 40,000 people. The PPC white nationalists were a fringe minority who ruined the forum for everyone else with their PPC bullshit.
So why don't you join them?
Oh, so I'm a "Liberal" because I won't let you fucking idiots keep spamming this site with this shit anymore?
Fuck off and don't come back. You worthless PPCtards are a fucking disease.
