Because the vulnerable don't need covid to be added to their list of problems, and unvaccinated people are more likely to give it to them than vaccinated people. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2786040
I love that analogy. I assume it upsets you because it's so great 😘
In theory, yes. Covid vaccines were pitched to us as being over 90% effective in preventing infection. It was good for a while, but definitely not 90%. Looks like omicron is rendering the vaccine useless in preventing covid now, so holding on to theories doesn’t help much.
This is childish. Nevertheless, you likely have me confused with someone else.
Depends what you mean by "preventing covid" I guess. "useless" is certainly true if you expect a vaccine to guarantee 100% protection from ever catching the virus, but everyone knows that was never promised.
On the other hand if you look at some of the figures for Ontario at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/data you can see that about 3 times as many unvaccinated people are in the ICU these days compared to vaccinated, and that all those unvaccinated people come from a pretty small proportion of the population.
I don't see how than can be interpreted any other way than that vaccines keep you out of the ICU. And - by extension - help keep the load on the healthcare system down.
And that means that when you or your family member needs care for their heart attack / cancer / vehicle accident there's a better chance they'll get the help they need.
The data you’re pointing to are for pre-omicron stats. I could tell you how things have changed, but i think you’ll hold onto your fascination with current covid vaccines to the bitter end.
The figures are from Dec 24. I guess you didn't look.
But you're right that omicron changes some things because of how rapidly it spreads. Are you saying that with omicron the ratio of vaxxed/unvaxxed people needing healthcare will change? That all of a sudden the unvaxxed will quit needing proportionally way more healthcare than the vaxxed?
If so I'd like to hear why.
It's not clear yet how serious omicron's impact on the healthcare system will be, but Massachusetts is calling out the National Guard to help the hospitals. https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2021/12/21/massachusetts-activates-national-guard-to-support-hospitals/
