Rachel Maddow falsely accused a journalist from One America News Network, Kristian Rouz, who once worked as a freelance writer for Russia’s Sputnik News. Maddow said that the revelation — which came in July 2019 — after the Mueller Report confirmed Maddow had been lying for 3 years about the Trump campaign colluding with Russia, proved that OANN was now colluding with Russia.

OANN hit Maddow with a $10 million defamation lawsuit, noting that the network does “not receive any money from the Russian government, OAN does not get paid by Russia, and OAN has absolutely no relationship with Russia.” MSNBC attorneys argued Maddow is an entertainer and nothing she says is based in facts. “MSNBC and Rachel Maddow do not keep their bias a secret, and therefore, Maddow’s audiences could expect her to use biased and unhinged language that comports with her political feelings,” the ruling held. “Maddow accusing every conservative of being a Russian is based in emotion and never implied an assertion of objective fact.”

MSNBC and Maddow “statements cannot reasonably be interpreted as allegations of fact,” ruled the judge.
