Due to the timing of this decision, it smacks of cuckery, virtue signalling, and panders to this whole idea of paying now for injustices in the past. The past can’t be changed, no matter whose face you decide to slap on a fin, and that’s the main issue I have with this weak facade.
I agree it’s an easy way to celebrate prominent Canadians. And if that was the intention behind this, that would be great. But due to the fact it’s never been an issue before, and only suddenly now, I don’t think that’s the intention. It smacks of bending the knee, and that’s my issue.
