I agree it’s an easy way to celebrate prominent Canadians. And if that was the intention behind this, that would be great. But due to the fact it’s never been an issue before, and only suddenly now, I don’t think that’s the intention. It smacks of bending the knee, and that’s my issue.

It’s bending the knee to white guilt. When the intent is clearly superficial it’s impossible for me to respect the decision, regardless of any other rationale that can be spun off it.
