Do we do this for the flu or a common-cold? Why should we change our entire society around for covid-19? The costs aren't worth the benefits. The death rate is ~0.4% with the vast majority of people dying being over 70yos with pre-existing conditions. This is not a virus we change anything for.
I get what your saying, I'm just being real about still being ruled by retard government. The fact we got to this point in the first place is the real issue. Arguing about weather or not to wear a mask on your face because you think its harmful to your health is not honest. No ones gonna believe you that wearing a mask is damaging to your lungs, it hurts your argument.
This letter would have been better off with the stats you provided instead of the bogus "I cant breathe (good)" in a mask
Oh, I agree. Those against masks are right IMO but this is an issue of how best to govern a society. The government has no business restricting the liberties of society and legislating on a virus of this magnitude. If this was the black death or something then sure but covid-19 is not a pandemic the government should be legislating over. Sweden's death rate is already near 0 now and their economy actually was positive in the first quarter this year while most european countries were down.
The way our governments have been handling covid-19 is all wrong. The mask argument shouldn't be about whether it stops covid-19 or not or oxygen or whatever. it's about the fact that the government has been handling this pandemic all wrong from the start and more government legislation is not the solution. Let people decide for themselves what works best for them. There is no crisis to our society over this pandemic that needs to force the governments hand. Legislators just need to sit down and do absolutely nothing.
Were mostly in agreement, I'm against mandatory masks. But not masks in general, which is probably what you meant anyways as you seem pro-freedom/liberty which is really what we need more of. I'm just saying without reliable data it's more moral/safer to wear the mask without being forced to. Might even be able to sway some leftys to the right by showing concern independent of the states orders.
Depending on what you do for work you should be able to flat out say no, but I got a few people with underlying health issues in the office I work with, so I wear the mask just in case when I'm within 6 ft.
I work from home. It's stuff like mandatory masks at a gym, at a restaurant (doesn't even make sense) and walking outside that will get my blood boiling. If we're going to make them mandatory anywhere the only place they should be is grocery stores. I'll begrudgingly support that if I have to but everything else is a joke.
The reality is that the effectiveness of masks is highly questionable anyway the government really shouldn't be regulating anything to do with them. Most of the studies that test masks effectiveness and have a "they work" result, are ones in which people were coughing. The studies where people weren't coughing show statistically insignificant benefits to wearing surgical masks. If you have symptoms you should be wearing a mask but if you have symptoms you shouldn't be out at restaurants, bars, gyms, etc... Why should 99% of the population be forced to wear masks instead of focusing on the 1% of people who have symptoms that are engaging in bad behaviors such as going to the gym with symptoms? Also, keep in mind going to the gym even with a surgical mask and coughing still has a high chance of transmission. The mask is limited protection.
Overall, the government shouldn't be legislating anything with regards to masks and the general public should not be upset over asymptomatic people not wearing masks.
