I wonder how many Liberal voters under 40 are going to stop voting Liberal in the next election due to our frustrations with Liberal finger wagging these past 6 months. Liberals keep scapegoating young people under 40 for going out and spreading the virus. "Don't go to bars and restaurants." "Don't go to house parties." "Don't fuck your significant other if you don't live with each other." "Wear a mask when having a new sexual partner." "Don't bother trying to date during the pandemic." Liberals are expecting young people to sacrifice for a generation that fucking votes Conservative. lmao. As it is overwhelmingly old people and immuno-compromised people who get hospitalized and die from COVID.
When Global News or whatever posted the Dr. Tam Wear a Mask During Sex video, the dislike:like ratio was insane. Young people are waking the fuck up to the insanity of the Liberal Party. Though don't expect this to mean that young people are going to swing to the Conservatives. It's more so that you're going to see more of them drop out of politics and less of them voting Liberal. Young people are generally not socially conservative or fiscally conservative. But they resent how much the Liberal Party wants to rule over our lives. I consider myself a social liberal. However the Liberal Party is becoming intrusive into our lives. Pierre Trudeau said he doesn't believe in the government getting into our bedrooms. And I agree with him on that. Oh how much the Liberal Party has changed. They are literally getting into our bedrooms now.
I like the idea of a UBI to replace means tested welfare bureaucracy and red tape (rather than on top of means tested welfare). But we have to be pragmatic with the costing. UBI was invented by libertarian economist Milton Friedman after all. If you tax the wealthy investor class too much, you're going to have capital flight, which will lead to devaluation of the national currency. Which leads to imports being more expensive. And Canada has already gutted much of our manufacturing so we don't have the domestic production capacity to make up for the import short fall.
And if you tax the working class to pay for people who aren't willing to work, this is unfair.
When I have went down the rabbit hole with leftists online, there are two camps: The low-IQ reformist Breadtube/AOC wing who really believe that you can print all of this money without negative consequence for the working class. And the leftypol wing who says that the implosion of the economy is a feature not a bug.
A cost-efficient UBI would likely be one where the pay out is too small to live on. But if you deregulate the economy, a lot of people who were formerly chronically unemployed (including people on disability) would be able to get work to supplement that modest basic income. Reducing immigration would also make it easier to get work.
Deregulating the economy would also lead to more affordable housing. There are a lot of investors out there motivated by "greed" who would be willing to rent units to high-risk tenants if the government didn't make it so unattractive to be a landlord. Landlords as things stand now are very strict and charge a lot of money. But a lot of that has to do with government regulations choking the housing supply and making it too risky to be a landlord. I took look at monthly rentals on Airbnb and was shocked at how much landlords were asking for in the 905. The Airbnb market serves high-risk tenants mainly. If you try to rent through traditional channels, you need to pass background checks and everything. We need a higher housing supply. And to make it more attractive to rent out your property.
You can't print your way out of eliminating poverty with a UBI if the rental vacancy rate remains anemic and the housing supply remains low.
This dude is hilarious.
Naturally. Tam is what we call a double-bagger. A bag over his head, and a bag over the head of whoever's fucking him just in case his slips off.

Maybe that's the only way she'll get laid.
