UBI as a concept, is only being floated in the next Throne Speech to fuckover Jughead in the debates.
I'm looking forward to seeing what poison is so offensive that the NDP cause this government to fall, just so Justin can pin Jughead on the "but you voted against a bill that would have provided UBI" point once the election is on.
Justin will never give the country UBI, he'll certainly use the concept though and should he ever have to implement it he'll shy away.
UBI actually is financially feasible because of how many public service positions it eliminates. Giving a salary of $24,000 a year ($19,200 after taxes) to every Canadian actually works because public sector salaries are so inflated that we'd save billions by eliminating all of the agencies that prop up the massive amounts of useless workers all of our social programs require.
A welfare recipient requires a caseworker, a job trainer, an interview trainer, a social worker for the kids, people to administrate subsidized transit, people to administrate subsidized housing, plus all of the upper-level bureaucracy.
All of that could be eliminated, and those salaries are massive.
Which is precisely why Trudeau would never actually implement UI. Too many upper-middle class tax dollars would be gone. Canada is a Ponzi scheme.
As I say, this Throne Speech will be interesting.
