Diesel hybrids would probably be the best. You can make bio diesel using hemp (it's easy and quick to grow, and puts out a lot of oxygen as it grows) and the hybrid system would use as little fuel as possible. To me this seems to be the ultimate solution to the energy and environment question.I haven't crunched the numbers though. Maybe we don't have enough usable farm land and too many consumers? Maybe diesel pollutes more than hemp and other plants can soak up? Can't say for sure but on paper it sounds pretty good.
The real reason it hadn’t caught on is probably because It is viable. Big oil for years has aggressively attacked anything that could realistically replace them. They killed the electric car back in the 70’s, they demonized nuclear energy even as much safer and entirely green options were designed because both those things threatened their existence. Now I think Tesla’s success is in part due to Musk who is a real salesman and futurist. He designed electric vehicles from the ground up and the timing was better than in the 70’s. But yes, realistic solutions to the pollution “problem” are often the ones that are crushed while semi useless ones like wind turbines are supported.
I do like electric vehicles but mainly from a technology/ performance perspective. Much simpler, generally less maintenance, generally better acceleration, better weight distribution, quieter. Once they can figure out recharge speeds, cost and range then it’s the end of the ICE vehicles. In terms of saving the environment though it’s a joke, there are much better things to focus on to actually help the environment than CO2 (which NASA confirms is greening the earth).
I’m excited to see what kinda performance the Ford Mach e gets (I refuse to call that thing a mustang). If they can perfect it I’d love to see a proper rwd 500 mustang though. Engine sounds be damned I just wanna still be able to throw the rear end out and do burnouts.
It’s definitely possible though, the Tesla Model S higher trims do 0-60 in what? 2-3 seconds?
Performance Model S gets 0-60 in 2.5 seconds last I checked lol. I think the new plaid model s is even lower like 2.3. They’ve really been pushing their designs considering the new roadster they’re working on is supposed to hit 1.9 seconds but that’s 3x the cost of a model s. But even the model 3 which is half the cost of the S hits 3.4 0-60. That’s just down to the electric car tech.
Why yes of course, the dangerous nuclear power plant that releases the dangerous substance known as dihydrogen monoxide. If you get enough of it in your lungs in liquid form, you will stop breathing!!
Funny but not accurate. There are no grids in north america that are powered by enough coal that would make it worse to drive electric CO2 wise.
No. Unless the car is 100% coal, it uses less CO2 eventually.
EVs have a higher initial CO2 cost, but use less per mile than ICE vehicles.
So even in a state like West Virginia (91% coal) an EV produces less CO2 per mile.
The CO2 break-even point (where it becomes better to drive electric) in a green state like Washington might as little as 1.5 years, whereas the break-even point in a state like WV might be 6.1 years.

No ... "EVs have a higher initial CO2 cost". https://imgur.com/a/6yAlEAa They considered that too. ICE vehicles manufacturing incur a transportation cost too.
Well you have a point since ICE vehicles don't have any rare earth metals.
Except ya know in the spark plugs, alternators/starters, catalytic converters, o2 sensors...
And it's not like ICE vehicles don't have a lot of electronics - oh wait they do.
