Perhaps if your father is referring to the US you can direct him to The NY Times v Sullivan for an understanding of the threshold of proof required to sue the press.
He thinks any news is infallible, even tho many times I've shown him video proof of events they're lying about. Theres no getting through to him, the cognitive dissonance is way to strong.
My dad viewed the internet with disdain (despite not really knowing what it was, sure he'd tell you he knows but the man can't even use a tap debit card) until mom got a smart TV with Youtube. At first he denied that Youtube was part of the internet but eventually came around. Now he is a goddamn junkie.
"Oh the news cant lie they would get sued" I've given up, if my father talks to me about CNN CBC or any current events I leave the room.
