Students and low income or part time workers and scammers made more free money. Others who lost their jobs are in the hole and small businesses all over are wrecked.
There’s a small, single screen movie theatre in my town that I doubt will survive. Very sad.
It’s a really quaint family run place that still sells popcorn for $5 and drinks for $2. It’s been the only theatre in town since the 1960s, and so many memories for everyone. It’s a small town so there’s never been much to do in the first place, if the theatre is gone it will be a big hole.
I know the family that runs it and they never made much money to begin with. I really doubt they will be able to stay open.
The funny thing about that number is the immigration industry (resettlement services and all the requisite bureaucrats) costs around $50 billion a year.
We actually could have paid for everything by pausing immigration for the pandemic and laying off all the workers.
As happens to every other industry during a downturn, apart from the people who work for the government.
Instead we've just more-than-doubled what was already an upsetting amount of debt and invested a very small amount of it within the country; the rest of which was blown for International prestige.
Say what you want about the UBI commies but their dream could be realized if we did away with the entire immigration industry and stopped giving money to UN organizations.
It's actually doesn't cost as much as you'd think to take care of those who can't contribute, so long as you aren't blowing a shit ton of money on international goals and an expensive bureaucracy.
Communism didn't fail due to philosophy, it failed due to the administration.
The fact is that we could easily afford a basic income of $2000 a month for anyone out of work if it wasn't for the weight of our social service. More even, if we cut out all international spending.
A roof over your head, a used Hyundai Accent, and a meal in your belly should be the bare minimum for living in a country with resources likes ours.
We could provide all of that if our government would only smarten up.
My office building is only allowed to operate at 30% capacity. Because it’s a quite crowded building and impossible to distance everyone 6 feet.
People like me can’t work at home because my job is handling sensitive documents, and it has to be on a secure server. I can’t use a home computer or home internet and my phone calls have to be recorded so I cant use a home phone.
They have no idea when I’ll be able to go back. I’ve heard possibly SUMMER 2021. It’s absolutely insane. Who knows if I’ll even have a job by then. There’s no certainty about anything, it’s horribly depressing.
I’m more worried about my unemployment, poverty, debt, depression and mental health than COVID. I would really just take my chances.
More money was given to immigrants, foreign students and people outside the economy than ever before. Thats a win! Can't create a fiefdom of serfs if a middle class and upward mobility still exists. Better transfer more from the middle class for "equity", the new buzzword they are pushing hard in every discussion.
Spending my money to buy voters should be illegal - it's contrary to the very idea of a constitutional democracy. I want to help - but this won't help in the long term.

Yea...UBI doesn’t work no matter how you spin it.
I’m not an economist but I know that “labour” is a pretty important variable in the equations.
You have no idea how bad it is.

Maybe this whole Covid thing isn't that bad.

Money printer go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
In Liberals’ thinking this is a win. And in the thinking of all Liberal voters.
