Hard to demand a discount if you can't get it at syria or saudi rates elsewhere.
They don't need to demand a discount. They are the only ones buying it, thus they are dictating the price.
Then stop producing like it's selling for $100 a barrel. He who holds the barrel wins.
Just look at Texas electricity rates once supply got cut off. He who holds the wire can charge $9/kWhr
Even if we cut the production by 90% the US would still get it for the same price as before. You can't demand a higher price if you only have one customer who also can choose not to buy it from you.
