to be fair, the Romans (who came later) took a lot of their culture from Ancient Greece. In turn, the Greeks learned a lot from Ancient Egypt. A surprising amount of Western culture was born in Ancient Egypt.
Those "we wuz kangs" people don't know shit about ancient Egypt. I actually studied it. The actual descendants of the Ancient Egyptians live on in the Coptic people. It is their language that was required for Champollion to decipher the Rosetta Stone. And no I didnt just Google this.
Ancient Egypt existed for thousands of years, and at times (especially during the Late Period) they had foreign rulers over them, including the Nubians to the South.
That said, the "race" of the Ancient Egyptians is moot to me. Culturally they shared much with their fellow Mediterranean and Middle Eastern neighbours regarding trade, etc.
Unlike many other ancient civs, we have legible records from various points in time, so we have a very good idea on who lived in Egypt across several millennia.
The 'we wuz kangz' is a lazy concept that basically attempts to assert that because Egypt is on the African continent, it must have been populated by 'blacks'. An argument that terse will only convince the uneducated and ignorant, which unfortunately make up the majority of western society today.

Uhh what? Coptic IS the demographic. Think of them like Jews, an ethnoreligious group.
