Because he apologized and called it a "genocide"
2008 June 11: Stephen Harper apologizes in the House of Commons for Canada’s residential-schools system, which more than 150,000 First Nations, Metis and Inuit children attended from the 1840s to 1996.
2015 December: The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's final report calls the residential school system "cultural genocide".
2019 June 3: National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls released. The commissioner uses the term genocide.
Spring 2021 - more than 1,000 unmarked graves found at the sites of residential schools, and some churches are vandalized and others burned.
2021 July 27 - some anonymous doofus on the Internet: "It's Trudeau's fault!"
Almost no Canadian is responsible for the residential school system or any other atrocity. Why is it that the elites commit these crimes and then their future decendants "repent" by punishing the common folk for their granddaddy's actions?
That's what the rule of law looks like. Promises were written down and then ignored.
And the descendants of the people who made the promises have lived a good life as a result of the broken promises. If you're found with stolen goods you usually have to give them back even if it wasn't you who stole them.
Speaking generally they aren't asking for their stuff back but they do want to negotiate something fair.
