The people's whose parents sacrificed everything so that future generations would have a good life are now refusing to sacrifice anything so that future generations can have a good life.
I know how you feel man. Having my father support the passport and suggest that I should be forceably vaxxed has been really messing with my head. I keep telling myself that it's not their fault.
Ordinary people should not have to spend hours researching these things to determine if they're safe. That's the job of the regulatory bodies and the health officials. I blame them, I blame politicians, and I blame journalists who are not doing their jobs.
Your family has gone through a year and a half of the most comprehensive propaganda campaign ever unleashed upon the population - it's not their fault. I hope you find some form of peace in this crazy fucked up world. Gl
Your family members are going to get covid eventually one way or another. The vaccine as I understand it only preps the body to respond to covid when a person catches it and is supposed to reduce severity, but it hasn't stopped many fully vaxxed from ending up in ICU anyways. In order to achieve "herd immunity" according to the Mayo Clinic 70% of people have to "recover" from covid, so that would have to include many fully vaxxed having to catch covid. So your dad essentially cut ties with you for no reason, which is really saddening.
It’s as much the youth today who are afraid. I can’t believe the stuff coming from university students afraid to go to class etc. I talk to many twenty-somethings and gen x people and they are so scared. They don’t seem to be able to understand numbers and risk.
My dad called me a week ago after I've spent the last 3 or 4 meetings with my mom and dad arguing about why I'm not getting the vaccine. I live in a different province from the rest of my family does, so I haven't been able to see them in person since before the pandemic started.
So anyway, my dad called a week or so ago and spent almost two hours trying to convince me to get the vaccine. His only reason why I should get the vaccine was that if I didn't get the vaccine I probably wouldn't be allowed to travel to see them and my grandparents again. And even if I did travel to their city, I wouldn't be allowed to see my grandparents because I'm unvaccinated (EVERYONE else in my family is fully vaccinated.)
I spent the better part of two hours arguing with him, telling him all of my reasons all of my doubts, all of my fears that the world is becoming a fascist authoritarian state. He didn't push back on any of my arguments, agreed with a lot of them. But he kept coming back to "if you don't get it, you won't be able to visit your grandparents or us again, and your grandparents are getting old and may not have long left"
I asked him, how would it sit on his conscience if I got the vaccine at his insistence just to see my grandparents again, but I end up being one of the rare people with a severe side effect, or if there's an unknown long term effect that ends up affecting the rest of my life. And he just said, "well if that happens, we'd all be in the same boat."
I was so tempted to say fuck his boat, wouldn't you rather I be in a different boat if yours is destined to sink, so that I could go on and not sink with you?
I hate to say it, but this fight is bigger than just not being able to see my grandparents in person again, and if they can't accept that then that's just too bad. They won't have to live with the consequences of this tyranny for as long if we all just stand by and do nothing to stop it.
My dad isn't even brainwashed like some people are. He's fully aware of how stupid this is, how it's not about the science, how the vaccines have some severe side effects (even if they are rare) and that I'm at a very low risk from the virus itself.
But he just can't muster up the willpower to actually fight for my (and his) rights when he knows and pretty much acknowledges that they're only being taken away by government executive fiat. But it's me who has to fall in line and be a good sheep so that I can go home for Christmas and see my family, not them who need to stand up and demand that I shouldn't need the governments blessing to freely move about the country that I am a (supposedly) free citizen of.
My mom, on the other hand is still full terrorized about COVID, and thinks I'm gonna die if I don't get it. She keeps sending me articles about the one guy who needed a lung transplant because he was unvaxxed and he was only 45 but was probably also morbidly obese. And the articles about how 99% of hospitalizations are unvaccinated.

Thank God my family is normal. I'm not vaccinated, they are but approve of my decision.
Blaming the unvaccinated for new variants is like blaming the people who never took antibiotics for antibiotic resistant diseases

I think you mean Gen Z or something else. Gen X means growing up in the 80s and early 90s.
They've been victim of state propaganda in the school system their whole lives and all they know is adherence to the rules that are set for them.
You are not alone, you have frens right here fren.
Ageism is based and warranted.
