That, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when parents stop raising their children and instead opt to warehouse them in daycare centers so both parents can pursue careers. You're looking at the daycare generation when they reach adulthood. And it's only going to get worse from here.
What about the "Latch-Key" Generation? I was definitely a "Latch-Key" and "Your older brother is in charge, until we get home" kid.
But now the wife can pursue her career of being an HR consultant and enforcing policies that discriminate against straight white men, isn't it great?
You're absolutely right. This is what it's all about ultimately - not red team vs blue team, or 'my' ideology or 'your' identity politics, it's about a generation of majority emotionally fucked up children growing up to adulthood.
I believe research indicates that parents, particularly the mother, must be around consistently and reliably until a child hits 18 months before it is sufficiently bonded enough to be able to be without her. In the US, mat leave is what, 6 weeks? Became 1 year in Canada ~20-odd years ago. All these career women who wanted children but not to be a parent high-tailed back to the office as soon as they could, as being a mom was so demeaning.
Generation X's kids - the people in these mug shots - are all kinds of fucked up now. Why is that every family I know has at least one kid that's fucked in the head in a fairly serious way, like they probably won't be able to be a productive member of society. I've wanted to discuss this somewhere but can't bring it up IRL and don't know where else to post it...
With regards to bonding, I wonder about the effect of modern parenting conveniences/distractions as well. Some of my cousin's children are placed in front of a screen whenever people are over, I recall visiting them and the kid was basically entranced by Paw Patrol on the TV. Similar with video games or tablets at a young age. Additionally, there are sort of automatic toys, the toys that have batteries and speakers and say cutesy phrases to your child to entertain them when they are young. Toys which don't require creative input, and also don't facilitate social bonds. The child learns to associate with the toy and not with people, in the phase of their life when they are maximally receptive to learning language and behavioural norms by interacting with real live people. People around me seem to see a child mesmerized by a singing mechanical light apparatus as cute or fun - I see it as the child adapting to a world of cruel inanimate machines and not adapting to people through normal play and interaction.
Certainly part of it - the automation as well as the outsourcing of parenting.
You also brought up another memory of an article I read about the impact of the parent's device as well, like it's emotionally damaging to the children when their parents are fiddling on their phones all the time; like the kids are in competition with the phones all the time as is the case with other addictions.
I could spend hours commenting on the hair colour, the ugly and disheveled looks of these people but what really strikes me is the lack of symmetry in their faces. You want to see what low quality genetics looks like? Look no further.
Never trust someone with unnaturally coloured hair.
world champions right there
Faces only a mother could love. If that.
Jesus you almost feel bad for these people at some point
