If you don't like Coke, try some Pepsi. The overton window has shifted so much that carbon pricing over a carbon tax seems like a win to voters.
Man I thought Scheer was moving the CPC closer to globalist policies, O'toole says hold my beer. O'toole stands for nothing, he's lied to his own voters from the leadership race, what makes anyone think he won't let us down if he were to become PM?
Erin O'toole ran as a red tory in 2017, then he marketed himself as a blue tory in 2020 to soak up all the 2nd ballot votes from Lewis/Sloan voters. It was always clear O'toole was an establishment crony. The media marketed this race as between Mackay and O'toole because the establishment controls both of them. Mackay was their 1st plan probably, O'toole was their backup plan. Voters foolishly threw O'toole some votes in hopes to stop Mackay. Either way the globalists got their controlled opposition guy in there anyways. O'toole will now continue to bring the CPC in line with the globalists' acceptable version of the overton window, thus purging anti-globalist politicians from the CPC. He's done his job, out goes Sloan, demotes Pierre, trashes Trump. He will then lead the CPC into a loss, probably another minority government for Trudeau, and thus O'toole is extended on as leader because 'he didn't have as much time as Scheer did to get recognized by the public' and 'hey he stopped a Trudeau majority'. Worst case scenario for the globalists is O'toole upsets Trudeau and becomes PM in a minority government and still pushes the elitist agenda albeit in a less in your face type of way that Trudeau did.
The sad truth is majority of Canadians who aren't CPC/PPC voters, don't care. Either they don't know because this was a one day thing and media has moved past it, or they don't care because media is not making it like an orange man bad incident.
We just have to look at CPC's past behaviour over the last few years. If CPC did something well, it would be a change for once.
Earlier in the pandemic I said Ford was making a bet, a bet that the media propaganda would make Ford look good for coming out strong with lockdowns/restrictions. I knew he bet on the Karens, and the old folks who eat up the MSM narrative. Ford also knows the pissed off conservatives hate the NDP and Liberals more and a good chunk will still show up on election day to prevent the left from taking over. Sadly, I think Ford made a good political bet. It's not moral, it's wrong, he should be prosecuted for violating Canadians' rights, but in terms of politics he played his hand well. I bet Ford thinks this will propel him to PM one day.
Sadly I doubt this will move the needle for anyone. This will be a headline for a day in the news and that's it. The CPC refuses to continue attacking Trudeau for having Chinese troops on our soil, probably because the CPC under Harper did the same thing. CPC huffed about it for 1 day and dropped it.
Which is hard to say when or if that will even occur. The time to draw the line was back in early spring of 2020. We've surpassed that line easily and continue towards the path of tyranny. It's hard to imagine a large majority fed up with this now if they were fine with it in the beginning. Essentially it's near impossible to reverse course once a population becomes conditioned. If there is a majority of people that are pissed off about the pandemic restrictions, then it's meaningless because only 10% at best are vocal about it. Everyone else is just 'going along to get along'.
o'toole wants nothing to do with the 1.6% of voters who voted PPC, he foolishly believes by moving to the left he will win more than 1.6% of voters that will come from the left. Isn't it easier to get the PPC people back rather than win over leftists who rarely vote CPC?
Jimmy Carter actually won an election, O'toole has no chance.
If a leader has to introduce himself to the public after 6 months of being leader, you know he isn't winning the next election.
The virus came from China and was released by the CCP, how is saying China virus racist?
Sadly Canada is so pro-choice that the mere suggestion of a law may be political suicide. It's sad and quite frankly shows how morally decayed our society has become.
I prefer someone to do the right thing. Sometimes doing and standing for what is right loses an election. O'toole isn't even PM and has already proven to be spineless.
By the time you factor in the demoralization that Erin has caused his base to have, it won't matter how much Erin panders to the 905. Erin will never beat the media either, come election time all the sucking up he has done won't mean a thing.
PPC could probably gain a much larger base if they were pro-life. Pro-life voters haven't been courted in a very long time. CPC tolerates them, so they vote for them. If PPC was openly pro-life, I could see them gaining a few more percentage than 1.6%. Problem right now with PPC is its a protest vote. I voted PPC in 2019 by the way.
O'toole was a red tory in the 2017 leadership race. He's been in office since 2012, how's he an outsider?
This is just the globalist 'controlled opposition' ploy to advance their agenda. They know a lot of people hate carbon taxes, thus they can use this other proposal that the 'anti-carbon tax' people will gladly accept. This moves the goalposts.
In my view this isn't to cheat, but to set a precedent (like the BC election did as well) - that mail in elections work thus our federal election upcoming can safely do mail in ballots!
O'toole was a red tory in 2017, anyone who believed he would be a blue tory in 2020 was a moron.
It was obvious that O'toole was lying to the primary voters.
You outlined the best case scenario, that he's a moron strategically. I'll offer another alternative, the worst case scenario - he's consolidating power by eliminating those who threaten his leadership both presently and in the future. Sloan and Pierre both are a threat to O'Toole. Pierre is the heir apparent so a demotion helps O'toole. I imagine he'll be coming for Lewis next, because she also has a strong path to leadership. Lewis isn't an MP yet but I can see him figuring out a way to prevent her from running in the next election.
8 years of Obama and 8 years of Bush might have something to do with it. Also US has Fox news, yes they are controlled opposition but US has at least 1 MSM network that appears as right wing. Canada does not have that. So I reckon the resistance to the establishment known as populism has had a better chance to grow with 1 MSM network having a lot of influence over the years. Also US has a culture and constitution that cares more about individual rights than Canada does, US has this framework that its still built on (1st amendment, 2nd amendment). Lastly, US is just a more patriotic culture that leans center-center right, whereas Canada has been a leftist nation for a very long time.
Take a look at his tweets and facebook posts, the guy gets roasted by his own side daily. The only chance he has is a gigantic blunder by Trudeau, and considering Trudeau has survived every scandal he's had yet, it's hard to imagine a large shift from Trudeau to O'toole. Factor in the media coverage of Trudeau handling the pandemic plus CERB payments is going to give Trudeau an advantage. As much as people hate Trudeau, people still need something to vote for, Erin O'toole is nothing. The strategy of just being better than Trudeau did not work for Scheer, you actually have to have real policy proposals and a personality. Politics is superficial, O'toole does not have a likeable face nor personality. He doesn't have the Trump alpha energy nor charisma. He also doesn't have that 'he's so hot' face women seem to love about Trudeau. He's got little chance.
