When we lived in small, self-sustaining communities, we were happier. Have you ever worked on a small scale farm or garden with and for people you cared about? The work is not easy and rarely fun but it brings enormous satisfaction because you are providing for your group. How can you say that being a cash register jockey at Wal Mart is the same kind of work?
Doesn't it just go to show how shitty, hollow and meaningless all of our jobs are? If you're lucky enough to have a job that lets you connect with and serve your community in a real, personal, human way like we had been doing for tens of thousands of years, you're happy to go to work every day. But those jobs are vanishingly rare now. Most jobs are slave jobs for corporate masters who take most of their capital overseas... and people know it.
