Don't fall for the SCO meme. China and Russia will be destroying each other in another 50 years at this rate because of Xi's expansionist ambitions. Very well possible that Russia could end up partnering with NATO to hold off Chinese expansion at some point in the future, there is not enough room for them both in Asia.
By 2050 and their current birth rate Russia will have a population of less than 80 million. They will be in a worse state than currently. And on the opposite China will be everywhere. In South America, in Africa and in Europe. Russia won't be a threat to China. They will be depend on China.
Exactly, but do you think that they are going to accept being a second rate power as basically a vassal state of the Chinese? Not with the current leadership, and highly unlikely with any future ones tbh. Nationalism is still too strong there.
I think that at some point, the West and Russia will have to put their current differences aside and work together in order to contain the Chinese threat. As you said, China is rising as a superpower, with Russia relegated to being a regional one, which means that they will have a common enemy with the West. I think that the historical perception of Russia as a superpower means that they aren't going to accept playing junior partner in a coalition with the Chinese, they would rather fight as equals with the West.
I don't think that Russia will align with NATO countries, especially since a bunch of Eastern European NATO countries absolutely hate Russia. They will be a "strategic partner" of China and they will do what China wants.
Yeah, the fate of Eastern Europe is a major issue (now and probably in the future as well). I can potentially see something similar to how it was in WWII where the West and Soviets worked together because they had, not because they really wanted to. I guess we will see over the next couple of decades.
Maybe their population wants to look westwards but their government doesn't. If it came to a US war against China, on which side do you think the Russians would be?
If Prime Minister Harper was still in charge he'd have got us those vaccines by now right?
No. I doubt that the Cons would have done anything different compared to the Libs in regards to Covid.
Ive entertained that position myself, but I find the annexation of Crimea to be an insuperable obstacle to holding on to it. It was a very serious breach of international norms.
Russia has had ownership of Crimea for centuries...it was only incorporated into Ukraine after the fall of the USSR and has been disputed ever since.
The way the media talked about it, it was implied that this was some new invasion of territory, where in fact Russia has more claim to the region than anyone else historically speaking.

Putin has good banter. Biden must have dementia or something wrong with him.
Russia is one step away from forming a military alliance with China. Do you really want this help?

Russia's. As they should be.
Speak on China's.
What's the body count from the destruction of Libya? Keeping the Syrian civil war going for seven years?

Putin ain't a saint, that's clear. But he does appear to be an enemy of the globalist elite.
