Oh yea, the innocent Afghans were just minding their business when the Russians and the Americans showed up to fight the cold war. For centuries, the Islamists have been causing trouble, and they came to our shores to cause more trouble on September 11, 2001. It is part of their religious doctrine to destroy the infidel. That is you and me. The Afghan army did not fire a single shot to stop the Taliban advance. They folded like a wet piece of paper. As far as the Americans not servicing the aircraft or whatever else, who cares? The Afghans had guns, they had training, money and much more. If Canada was in trouble because of a ruthless enemy hell bent on enslaving you and raping your women, are you just going to throw your hands up in the air because foreigners are not servicing your junk? No, you'd stand and fight for your country and your family with the army you have, not the one you wish you had. Unless, you don't think your cause is worth dying for, which in case, put your gun down, take your boots off, and good luck.
The Taliban did not come out of an alternate dimension or from outer space. They are the product of a culture that puts Islamic values above everything else. Members of the Taliban are not aliens, they are the sons and daughters of 'the people.' Twenty years ago, they decided it would be a good idea to come and kill people in our continent, so we returned the favor in kind. But we are good neighbours, so instead of destroying them like it used to be done in the old days, we showed them mercy and a new way of doing things through democracy, peace, and freedom. People flourished with this new found freedom. Just look at the status of women and girls after the Taliban retreated. Yet the Afghans never gave up the old ways. Adherence to religion was the (Sharia) law of their land. Now, they have decided that fighting for freedom and democracy is not worth it. So, the only thing we have left to say to them is 'good luck!'
